    The Texas Almanac for 1873 and Emigrant's Guide to Texas. Galveston: Richardson, Belo and Company. [1872]. First edition. 8vo. 240 pp. with numerous ads. Original goldenrod printed wrappers. Bound in contemporary tan buckram with gilt lettering on front cover and spine. Paper wrappers bear creases and chips along some edges and corners. Textblock is faintly age toned but generally fine.

    As always, Richardson's Almanacs contain a wealth of information, both historical and present-day, of the state of Texas and the condition of its inhabitants. Between 1857-61, these almanacs bore the imprint of Richardson and Company (publishers of the Galveston News); the 1862-65 editions were published by David Richardson. Post-Civil War publication was undertaken in 1867 by Richardson and Company. The 1873 edition is unique in that it bears the imprint of Richardson, Belo and Company, the only early edition to carry the name of Col. Alfred H. Belo. The Panic of 1873 adversely affected the Richardson firm, and this was the last of the Richardson almanacs.

    Includes a detailed Record of Texas Cattle Passing Caldwell, Kansas, Driven over the Old Chisholm Trail, for the year 1872, which lists ownership data for 292 herds; Texas Minerals by Roessler; William P. Zuber's An Escape from the Alamo; Reminiscences of Early Texans by Henry S. Brown; and Col. A. M. Hobby's Life of David G. Burnet. Also contains a much information on railroads, information about the newly established city of Dallas and more.
