The Texas Almanac for 1867 and 1868, Bound in One Volume. Galveston: Richardson and Company. 1867 and 1868. First editions. 8vo. 360pp. and 312pp. respectively, with hundreds of illustrated advertisements. Original paper wrappers were removed and the two books were bound together as one; publisher's three-quarter calf over marbled boards with gilt lettering on spine. Gilt-lettered leather label bearing former owner's name - Confederate colonel and Galveston lawyer Walter L. Mann - affixed to lower portion of spine. Signed by Mann on initial flyleaf. Bears an A. Stein & Co. / Wholesale & Retail Stationers / Galveston, TX sticker on the initial pastedown. Board corners and edges are worn; spine is worn and damaged with near separation of upper board at hinge. Interior leaves show moderate overall age toning. Generally very good.

The 1867 almanac addressed many concerns that lingered after the Civil War ended, one of which was the continuing fluctuation in the value of Confederate and United States currency. Other articles discuss raising cattle and sheep, developing cotton as a staple crop, railroads, commerce, laws, Branch T. Archer's biography, grape growing, and more. The 1868 almanac includes the obituary of George W. Kendall, immigration, yellow fever, Indian depredations and captures, a wide variety of natural history subjects, and The Fall of the Alamo by R. M. Potter.
