Gregory Martin (circa 1540-1582) was a Roman Catholic priest and scholar, best known for his part in translating the Douai-Rheims bible, the first English translation from the Latin Vulgate for service in the Catholic Church. The New Testament portion of the bible was translated and published in Reims, France in 1582. The Old Testament and Apocrypha as seen here, was not completed until over 27 year later (1609/10). This publication was an attempt by English Catholics to uphold Catholic tradition and provide support in the wake of the Protestant Reformation.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
