Cleveland and New York: The World Publishing Company, 1949. First, thus. Edition limited to 975 copies. Folio. xxii, 941 pages. Printed by A. Colish from designs by Bruce Rogers for the World Publishing Company. Full red cloth with gilt titles on spine and pictorial gilt design on front and rear covers. Top edge gilt, other edges uncut. A mammoth-sized book measuring 19 x 13 x 3.25 inches and weighing almost 30 pounds. Minor scuffing and soiling to boards. Front cover with faint cup ring stain. Overall, a very good copy of an elegantly designed lectern bible from one of the foremost typographers of the twentieth century. [And:] William Targ. The Making of the Bruce Rogers World Bible. Cleveland and New York: The World Publishing Company, [1949]. First edition. Quarto. 19 pages of text plus several unnumbered pages of decorations and initials used in the World Bible. Photographs of the Bible being printed. Red cloth with gilt titles and cover decoration of an eagle, matching the cover design of the World Bible. Offsetting to front endpapers. Otherwise fine, in a split and battered slipcase. Laid in is a signed presentation letter from Louis Colish, son of Abraham Colish, founder of the A. Colish fine art printing company which produced both volumes. This companion book to the gargantuan World Bible documents its production and was a privately-printed book intended for presentation to friends of Bruce Rogers, A. Colish and the World Publishing Company.
