    [Surfing]. Ron Drummond. The Art of Wave Riding. Hollywood: Cloister Press, 1931. First edition of the first book on surfing, one of 500 copies printed. Octavo. [vi], 26 pages. Illustrated throughout. Publisher's original printed wrappers. Wrappers toned, front wrapper with soiling, binding a bit rolled. Still, a near fine copy of this rare and highly sought-after work, the center-piece of any surfing collection. [Together with:] Black and white portrait of Ron Drummond. [Durban, South Africa, n.d., ca. 1930's]. Portrait is approximately 7 x 5.5 inches. Portrait is mounted onto a decorative backing sheet, which is, in turn, mounted inside a decorative folder with tissue guard. Tissue guard is torn and creased, else fine. [Together With:] Two photographic prints of Drummond and his canoe. [N.p., n.d., ca. 1960's, though prints may be later]. Each print is approximately 11 x 14 inches. One is in color, the other is in black and white. The color print depicts Drummond paddling his canoe with his Newfoundland dog, Surfer, sitting beside him; the black and white print depicts Drummond and a large group of surfers posing on the beach with the canoe in the foreground.
