London: J. Tonson, 1728. First edition. Quarto. [xvi], 376 pages. With three folding plates of the Temple of Solomon inserted. Contemporary full calf with five raised bands on spine. Brown morocco gilt lettering label. Joints cracked and tender. Some wear, chipping, soiling to boards and spine. Later small paper label on spine. Dampstain to front endleaves, which have mildly stained the first two leaves. Similar dampstaining to rear endleaves and final three leaves. Minor thumbsoiling in text. Overall, very good.

    "Newton attempts to determine the dates of ancient events from astronomical considerations and indicates the manner in which astronomy might be used to verify the views the chronological points derived in the main from Ptolemy, which were held in his time" (Babson 215).
