    Description

Sir Isaac Newton: The Chronology of Ancient Kingdoms Amended. To Which is Prefix'd, A Short Chronicle from the First Memory of Things in Europe, to the Conquest of Persia by Alexander the Great (London: Printed for J. Tonson, and J. Osborn and T. Longman, 1728), first edition, 376 pages, full leather binding with gilt spine titles, spine and boards ruled in gilt, 8vo (7.5" x 9.25"). Three folded engravings intact. This book was published after Newton's death, and originally meant for the private amusement of the author. Upon request, he gave copies to Queen Caroline and the Abbe Conti, who spread the book around. Eventually, Newton felt obliged to defend the book, and this expanded version was the result. Spine slightly cracked at folds, occasional toning and light soiling, and moderate shelf wear, else very good condition.
