    More Information:

Simone Maioli (1520-1597) was born in Asti in Piedmont. In 1572 he was made bishop of Volturra where he was recognized for his wisdom and learning. He published several historical and religious works the most famous of which was this massive encyclopedia of miscellaneous knowledge. It was first printed in Paris in 1610 but  later printings kept adding more sections to it, until it reached the massive seven volumes in this edition.

There is too much to cover in a brief listing but he covers science, plants & herbs, oracles, dwarves, dragons, the perfidy of the Jews, law, angels and spirits, devils, demonology, women, pigmees, possession, apparitions, etc.    VD 17 :109663T.
