Volume II, 952 pages, published by Fowler & Wells in New York in 1881. Signed, "With the regards of yours sincerely Susan B. Anthony / Rochester N.Y. / New Orleans La. - / March 14, 1885-" on the front endpaper.

Merrick / 1404 Napoleon Avenue / New Orleans - Louisiana - / This book I send you for its good word and for our cause since the early eighties - we have reaped a rich harvest - but the first score of years of the 20th Century must bring us still larger gains. With the old love and memory of your good husband - I am affectionately yours / Susan B. Anthony / 17 Madison Street / Rochester - N.Y. / June 9, 1903." At the top of the page is an ownership signature by Edwin T. Merrick, likely husband of Caroline Merrick.

Caroline Merrick organized the first women's suffrage association in Louisiana in 1892. The Portia Club, as it was known, had nine charter members. By 1896, state-wide interest in Louisiana encouraged the group to establish the State Woman Suffrage Association with Caroline Merrick as its president.
