Signed Amelia Earhart 20 hrs. 40 min. Our Flight In the Friendship - The American Girl, First Across the Atlantic by Air, Tells Her Story (New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1928), first edition, 314 pages, 8vo (5.5" x 8.25"), maroon cloth with gilt titles, no dust jacket. A contemporary photography of Earhart has been affixed to the front free endpaper and signed "Amelia M. Earhart". A newspaper article from the Boston Evening Transcript dated November 14, 1928 regarding a night flight Earhart made over Boston has been pasted on the inside front cover. To the back free endpaper is attached an envelope containing a three page invitation from the National Aeronautic Association, Boston Chapter, to attend "...a luncheon to meet the crew of the airplane FRIENDSHIP- Amelia M. Earhart, Wilmer Stutz, Louis E. Gordon...July 9, 1928..." Also included is the original RSVP card and the unused return envelope- a nice group of early aviation collectibles in their own right. The book is in good condition with broken front hinge, loose front free endpaper and frontispiece, spine titles faded, small portion at the top of the spine missing, bumped corners.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
