    President Chester A. Arthur's Personal Copy of Charles Dickens' Martin Chuzzlewit, Signed by Arthur. (Philadelphia: T. B. Peterson, nd), part of T. B. Peterson's Uniform Edition of Charles Dickens' Works, 320 pages, tooled black cloth with gilt lettering on the spine and decorative blindstamping on the boards, 8vo (6" x 9.25"), clear plastic dust sleeve, housed in a brown custom quarter leather slipcase with marbled boards and gilt titles & five raised bands on the spine. Boldly signed "C. A. Arthur New York City" on the front pastedown. Previous owner's blue ink signature on the front flyleaf. The book is in generally very good condition, with moderate shelf wear and mild wear to the boards. The text is clean with the exception of minor off-setting of the Boz illustrations. The binding is sound on this unique presidentially owned and signed comic English novel set partially in America.
