John W. Campbell. The Mightiest Machine. Providence: Hadley Publishing Company, 1935.

First edition. Octavo. 228 pages. Illustrated by Robert Pailthorpe.

Publisher's textured red cloth with titles in gilt on the spine. Light shelf wear to the edges. Internal contents lightly toned. Dust jacket with a small area missing at the head of the spine that affects the lettering of the author's name. Shelf wear at the corners and edges with a few small closed tears. A very good copy of the author's first book.

An intriguing copy with Fritz Leiber's signature on the front free endpaper and an unsigned inscription which reads "For Bob In hope he may have fun with it. Xmas 1948." Could this be Leiber's personal copy? From the Robert and Diane Yaspan Collection.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
