Octavo. 246 pages. Publisher's pictorial white cloth stamped in red-brown, spine lettered in red-brown and black; original illustrated dust jacket designed by Don Freeman. Corners just rubbed, foot of spine pushed, slightly cocked. Illustrated endpapers after Don Freeman. Internally clean, top edge trimmed and stained orange-brown, other edges rough trimmed; hinge cracked at front blank, minor textblock edgewear, page 241 with minor ink notation. Dust jacket unclipped ($4.95); ink notation to rear flap, moderate edgewear, chipping to head and foot of spine with losses, spine sunned, worming to edges and back panel, somewhat rubbed. Very good book with very good dust jacket.

    Partially serialized in Holiday magazine under the title "In Quest of America" (1961).
