    James Madison Signed Book from His Personal Collection: An Introduction to the History of the Dutch Republic, for the Last Ten Years, Reckoning From the Year 1777. London: Printed for G. Kearsley, at Johnson's Head, 1788. Signed "James Madison" on the upper right corner of the title page. 8vo, 318 pages. Modern rebinding in leather with blind and gilt stamped spine. Reinforced front hinge. Binding is very tight. Light to moderate foxing throughout. Light shelfwear. Housed in an attractive brown cloth, trifold hard case and matching quarter-bound slipcase with title stamped in gilt and five raised bands. "James Madison's Copy" also stamped in gilt on spine.

    Founding Father, "Father of the Constitution and Bill of Rights," and fourth president of the United States, James Madison, was a great collector of books and especially enjoyed books of history. Madison was the first supporter of a library for Congress.
