Description

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis: A Massive Folio of Color Illustrations of French Fashion Through the Years. Jackie's unparalleled sense of fashion was no doubt born out of this massive folio issued in the 1920s with hundreds of full-color illustrations of European style. She personally inscribes the book in the front in blue ink:

    Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy
Given to me by Uncle Hugh
    March 27, 1963
Book I always loved at Merrywood (the family estate)

"Uncle Hugh" was of course her step father, Hugh Auchincloss. Jackie had a close relationship with Auchincloss, who got her first job in journalism and gave her away at her wedding to JFK. But he would always be "Uncle Hugh," as Jackie still adored her birth father, "Black Jack" Bouvier, even though her parents had divorced in 1940 when Jacqueline was 11.

The 10½" x 14½" folio, almost two inches thick, is still in its original case, which shows expected wear. However the interior pages are in excellent condition aside from minor edge wear. It is now housed in an elegant Asprey clamshell case.
The consignor purchased this folio in the 1995 Sotheby's auction of the estate of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, where it sold for $6325.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
