Austin: The Steck Company, 1935. Copy number one of the Steck Facsimile of the original signed by Steck's management and production staff. 8vo. xii, 672. Illustrated. Original pictorial light brown cloth. Near fine with a former owner's bookplate on the front pastedown and in a well worn and chipped slip case.

    "It tells of nearly all the Indian fights and battles in Texas, with sketches of many of the most noted Texan Indian fighters and frontiersmen" (Raines, Bibliography of Texas). The illustrations in this book, attributed to T. J. Owen, are believed to have been the work of William Sydney Porter, better known as "O. Henry". This remarkable copy is inscribed on the front free endpaper: "This is copy No. 1 of the first/ book of the Series/ 'Original Narratives of/ Texas History and Adventure'/ Published Saturday, June 29, 1935/ by The Steck Company, Austin, Texas." Beneath the inscription are the signatures of E. L. Steck, President of the company and his executive staff. On the second front free endpaper the signatures of the production staff appear. This is a unique copy of this important Texas book.
