Herbert Hoover Signed and Numbered Presentation Edition Book: The Ordeal of Woodrow Wilson. New York: McGraw-Hill, 1958. First edition. 8vo (6.5" x 9.5"). xiii, 318 pages. Illustrated, cloth with stamped signature of Hoover on blue escutcheon on front board. In original glassine jacket in nearly fine slip case as issued. Signed on the limitation page, this is copy # 141 of 500. Published in 1958, the book set a precedent in the field of political biographies. Here was a former Republican president writing about one of his predecessors, a Democrat. In Hoover's own words: "...[Wilson] was more than just an idealist: he was the personification of the heritage of the American people. He brought spiritual concepts to the peace table. He was a born crusader..." Book is near fine with tight binding and very clean. Small defect to spine of slipcase, affecting paper label thereat.
