Description

Inscribed by Cartier-Bresson to Ethel and Robert Kennedy

Henri Cartier-Bresson. The Decisive Moment, Photography by Henri Cartier-Bresson. New York: Simon and Schuster in collaboration with Éditions Verve of Paris, [1952].

First American edition. Inscribed by Cartier-Bresson on the title page to Ethel and Robert Kennedy: "Á Monsieur et Madame Robert Kennedy avec mon souvenir le meilleur, Henri Cartier-Bresson." Folio. Unpaginated. 126 black and white photographs. Laid in is the nine-page "Captions" booklet. Also laid in is an unidentified black and white photograph of Bobby Kennedy and others, with a Look magazine rubber stamp to verso; photo with a few shallow creases.

Original illustrated paper boards designed by Henri Matisse. Boards a bit soiled, extremities bumped and lightly worn. Spine darkened. Hinges starting. Front free endpaper creased. Title page with inscription clean, with no creasing. Original dust jacket is chipped along edges, most noticeably at spine ends; jacket toned and foxed. The laid-in "Captions" is foxed. A better than very good copy.

A wonderful association item, warmly inscribed from one of the most important photographers of the twentieth century to one of the most notable members of America's most prominent political family. From the library at Hickory Hill, home of Robert and Ethel Kennedy.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
