George W. Clark. A Glance Backward. Or Some Events in the Past History of My Life. Houston: Rein and Sons Company, [circa 1914]. First edition. 8vo. 93 pp. Signed by the author on the front pastedown: "Geo Clark".

Original brown cloth with blind stamped rules on the boards and titles stamped in gilt on the front board. Edges untrimmed. Light soiling and toning to the boards and spine. Contents lightly toned, otherwise sound. Small "St. Paul's House Library" ink stamp on the front free endpaper and title page. A very good copy of a scarce title.

George W. Clark was born in Alabama. He graduated from the University of Alabama just as the Civil War started and joined the Confederate army as a private, eventually working his way up to lieutenant colonel by the end of the war. After the war he studied law under his father's guidance and upon receiving his license, moved to Texas in 1867. Aside from practicing law, Clark was politically active in the Texas Democratic party. Clark has the distinction of serving the shortest period of time of any Texas Secretary of State - ten days (until the arrival of the regular appointee) and also served as Texas Attorney General under Governor Richard Coke. Clarke ended his political career with an unsuccessful run for governor against incumbent James Stephen Hogg.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
