Signed by the author in blue ink to the front free endpaper recto. Octavo. 145, [1, blank], [2, advertisements] pages. Publisher's green cloth stamped in blind, spine lettered in gilt; original illustrated dust jacket. Corners just bumped, head and foot of spine just pushed and lightly worn, gilt on spine darkened. White endpapers; pencil notation to front pastedown. Internally clean and tight, top and bottom edges trimmed, fore-edge rough trimmed; minor spot of soiling to half-title page, lightly toned to margins, minor text block edgewear, top edge darkened. Dust jacket unclipped ($1.50); moderate edgewear, chipping to head and foot of spine and corners with some losses affecting text, somewhat rubbed and soiled but front illustration still bright. Very good book with good dust jacket.

    Fitzgerald's only full-length play, The Vegetable is a political satire that tells the story of a railroad clerk who accidentally becomes President when on his journey to become a postman. The first edition was comprised of 7,650 copies.
