Neil Barron, writing in Anatomy of Wonder, calls E. E. "Doc" Smith's Lensman series "the greatest of the early golden age space opera. A Lensman is a super-virtuous male or female chosen by the agents of cosmic goodness in the universe to have his virtues magnified and augmented with a 'ruby lens.' The lensmen become the balance of power against forces of cosmic evil. On the greatest battlefields, employing the most violent weapons, the lensmen fight the most ferocious of all wars."

    Anatomy of Wonder, p. 258. Bleiler, Checklist, p. 181. Currey, p. 456.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
