    First edition. Inscribed and signed in full "To Raleigh Evans with best wishes Edgar Rice Burroughs Hollywood March 3 1937" on the front endpaper. Twelvemo. 315 pages. Five black-and-white plates illustrated by J. Allen St. John.

    Blue cloth backed with orange lettering on spine and front cover. Minor wear at head and foot of spine, and on edges of binding. The book and dust jacket are in overall fine condition. Housed in an archival clamshell case bound in red cloth and leather with gilt lettering and decorations, also in fine condition.

    Other than Tarzan, John Carter is Edgar Rice Burroughs' most famous literary creation. Carter narrates Swords of Mars, the eighth novel in Burroughs' "Barsoom" (Mars) series. This fine first edition, beautifully inscribed and signed by the author, is a must for any serious Burroughs or science-fiction collection. From the Robert and Diane Yaspan Collection.
