    More Information: E. W. Howe. The Story of a Country Town. Atchison: Howe & Co., 1883. First edition, first issue. Signed by the author on the title page. Octavo. 226 pages. Original green cloth with blind stamped horizontal bands in black and gilt title vignette on the front board. Titles lettered in gilt on the spine. A clean copy with modest wear to the boards and bright contents. Near fine. This copy is housed in chemise within a quarter green morocco case. Included is a one page autograph letter dated April 12, 1935 written for Howe by John Davis (Howe was by this time nearly blind) which gives an account of his current physical state and other interesting items. Also included is an autograph post card written by or for Howe, a printed broadside listing works by Howe, and a 1943 one page typed letter on Bennett Book Studio of New York letterhead discussing disputed states of Howe's Story of a Country Town with a disgruntled buyer.
