    Inscribed by Dr. Seuss

Dr. Seuss. The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins. New York: The Vanguard Press, [1938].

First edition. Quarto. Inscribed by Dr. Seuss on verso of front free endpaper. Unpaginated. Illustrations by the author.

Illustrated black paper boards with red cloth backstrip. No title on spine. Illustrated endpapers. Boards are rubbed along edges, and worn at corners. Spine ends of cloth lightly faded. Top right corner of front board bumped. Book store sticker to rear pastedown. School presentation label to front pastedown, with printed name that matches the name in Seuss's inscription. Price-clipped dust jacket is in remarkable shape, aside from a couple of small chips and a small closed tear or two. Very good.

This later printing of the first edition has the hats increasing in size on the illustrated endpapers - the smallest hats are on the pastedowns. The jacket appears to be an early one, but as it is price-clipped, exact issue of jacket is unknown.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
