Inscribed, signed and dated by the author on the verso of the frontispiece. Six plates. Accompanied by a letter pertaining to the signing of this copy and small clippings likely penned by Tarkington. Very good.

    Octavo. 128 pages.

    Red cloth with the front cover and spine stamped in gilt. Top edge gilt with the other edges uncut. Black and white illustrated endpapers. Housed in custom red cloth chemise and quarter leather over red cloth slipcase with the spine stamped in gilt and black.

    Boards are slightly rubbed, have lightly bumped edges and spine ends, a slightly darkened spine and some white discoloration. Small pencil notations and small ink stain to the front free endpaper. Some rubbing to the chemise. Top edge of the slipcase is darkened and the spine is lightly scuffed. A very good copy of the author's second novel set in eighteenth century Bath.   

    First edition, first issue points: Gilliss half inch seal on the page following the last page of text.
