Bernhardt Wall. Following Stephen F. Austin Father of Texas. Lime Rock: Published by Bernhardt Wall, 1936. Centennial edition limited to 200 hand-numbered copies of which this is copy 20. 8vo. Un-paginated. 47 tinted etchings by Bernhardt Wall, most signed. Original publisher's olive cloth spine over paper-covered boards with the original protective plain dust jacket. Edges untrimmed. Some modest toning to the boards. Contents slightly toned, otherwise in near fine condition.

This copy was presented to Sir Herbert Marler, at the time Canadian envoy to the United States, by George A. Hill, Jr., a prominent Houstonian and chairman of the San Jacinto Park Commission. Presentation inscription by Bernhardt Wall on front free endpaper, dated 1938. A further gift inscription on the front pastedown from Sir Herbert's wife to her grandson in 1952. This is a remarkable work, chronicling Austin's life in a series of simple etchings.

    Reference: Weber, p. 43.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
