Anne McCaffrey. Dragondrums Manuscript Archive, Multiple Signatures.
Anne McCaffrey's contributions to the field of science fiction are legendary - her 1968 Hugo Award for Best Novella for the initial story in the Dragonriders of Pern series (Weyr Search) made her the first woman to receive such an award. In 2005, the Science Fiction Writers of America named her the 22nd Grand Master in the genre, and she was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 2006.

McCaffrey's best known science fiction contribution is her Dragonriders of Pern series. Number seven in the series is titled Dragondrums, and this big archive concerns itself entirely with that work. It contains: a 197-page typed first draft with the author's handwritten notations; a final draft with 199 photocopied pages plus an additional 40 pages of original typewritten text, edited by the author and accompanied by the original dedication page, signed; a set of first galleys and a set of page proofs both containing ink corrections by McCaffrey, signed; six typed letters from Atheneum editor Jean Karl and two carbons of McCaffrey's replies, all relating to this installment of the Dragonriders series; and McCaffrey's original file folder with her handwritten notes. Finally, the archive includes a list of the items in this collection, typed on McCaffrey's personal letterhead and signed by her in ink. As is to be expected, these items are somewhat wrinkled, dog-eared, and smudged, save the inventory list which is very fine. Accompanying this impressive archive is a 1979 first edition of Dragondrums with dust jacket, in as-new, unread condition. An excellent collection of items from one of America's premier science fiction writers! From the Robert and Diane Yaspan Collection.
