    A. A. Milne. When We Were Very Young. London: Methuen & Co., [1924]. Second edition. Inscribed and signed by A. A. Milne, "The above autograph was / written by Christopher Robin Milne / (age 4 years and 3 months) this / day, December 2nd, 1924," and additionally signed by Ernest H. Shepard and Christopher Robin as "Billy Moon." Octavo. [xii], [100] pages. With decorations by E. H. Shepard. Publisher's original gilt pictorial stamped blue morocco, spine lettered in gilt; corner's bumped, slightly rubbed, some wear to head and foot of spine. Illustrated endpapers; both front and rear free endpapers toned with some offsetting from pastedowns. Top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed. Internally clean, a few instances of soiling, text block slightly over-opened. Housed in a custom three-quarters green leather and marbled boards clamshell, spine lettered and decorated in gilt. Very good+.

A very nice copy of Milne's first book in what was to become the Winnie-the-Pooh set, charmingly signed in pencil by the book's dedicatee Christopher Robin Milne, "as he prefers to call himself." Christopher Robin has painstakingly written his preferred name, "Billy Moon," with the help of two lines ruled very lightly in pencil above the half-title. We would be remiss to neglect to mention the backwards "n" but we shall not hold it against him. This copy also signed by the book's illustrator, Ernest H. Shepard. From the Pat McInally Collection of Winnie-the-Pooh and Christopher Robin
