    Description

[W. Somerset Maugham]. David Gray. Smith. New York: Duffield, 1911. First edition. Inscribed by Maugham. Slight lean. Hinges loose. Sizeable abrasion to front pastedown. Some dampstaining to pages, affecting one photo plate. Else, very good.

    More Information:

First edition. Inscribed by Maugham on the front endpaper, "For / Paul Moser / W. S. Maugham." Octavo. 307 pages.

Publisher's gray cloth with white stamping and a photo of a scene from the production pasted to the front. Edges and spine ends of binding are rubbed. Darkened spine has a slight lean. Endpapers are toned and hinges are loose. There is a sizeable abrasion with glue residue on the front pastedown, perhaps from the removal of a bookplate. A few pages are dampstained, affecting one of the photo plates. Overall, very good.

Contains four photo illustrations from a production of the play. David Gray adapted Maugham's play into this novelization. Rarely found signed by Maugham, as Maugham did not actually write this item.

    Stott E1.
