First edition, signed by the author on the front endpaper, in probable earliest state of the hardcover trade binding with publisher's monogram stamped upside down on spine panel (Currey binding B1). Octavo. [xii], 306, [307: about the author], [308: blank] pages. Publisher's red cloth, spine lettered in black, in original dust jacket. Rear board has a small cluster of minor blemishes, spine ends and corners lightly rubbed, small splash at fore edge of text block. Dust jacket rubbed with occasional light soiling, minor edgewear with two faint creases to front board, price-clipped. A near fine copy in a very good dust jacket. From the collection of Dr. Stuart David Schiff.

    Four stories appear here for the first time in book form, "The Dwarf," "The Watchful Poker Chip of H. Matisse," "Touched With Fire," and "The Wonderful Death of Dudley Stone."
