    L. Sprague de Camp. The Wheels of If. 1948. First edition. Inscribed to illustrator Hannes Bok, who designed the jacket (and with a TLS to Bok).

    More Information:

    L. Sprague de Camp. The Wheels of If. And Other Science-Fiction. Chicago: Shasta Publishers, 1948. First edition. Inscribed by de Camp to illustrator Hannes Bok, who provided the jacket design. Also with a typed letter signed by de Camp to Bok.

Inscribed by de Camp on the front free-endpaper: "Best regards to my favorite/creepycrawly illustrator,/Hannes Bok, from/L. Sprague de Camp/(Sometimes he scares even me!)". Laid-in is a typed letter signed from de Camp to Bok, folded in its original envelope. One quarto page on plain white paper. Dated "20 Feb 49" and addressed "Dear Hannes:", the letter talks about the minor changes this book had undergone before publication and chides Bok for his (de Camp's) last name beginning with a capital "D" on the dust jacket. Octavo. [2, blank], [x], [223], [4, blank], [1, colophon] pages. Publisher's light brown cloth, spine lettered in black, dust jacket. Mild rubbing and edge wear to jacket, with one short tear to the crease at the upper portion of the rear jacket flap, light rubbing to binding. Still, a near fine copy, with an excellent association and interesting letter.
