    Description

The Rare First American Edition of Verne's Topsy-Turvy

Jules Verne. "Topsy-Turvy." New York: J. S. Ogilvie, Publisher, [n.d., 1890]. First American edition and first edition in English. Octavo. 222, [2, ads], [2, blank] pages. With ten intertextual illustrations. Publisher's full blue cloth, spine stamped in gilt. Binding toned and rubbed, hinges cracked, some pages loose, text toned and brittle with some chipping (common for this title). Still, a very good copy of a very rare and notoriously fragile item, produced as cheaply as possible. As best as we can tell, this is the first time this title has ever appeared at auction.

    More Information:

This story is a sequel of sorts to Verne's moon voyages books, but with a darker view of humanity. In this book, some Americans have bought the North Pole and intend to change by Earth's axis by firing a huge cannon, thus turning the arctic into tropics. Mistichelli, Gallagher and Van Eerde, A68. Myers 53.
