More Information:

Jules Verne. A Journey to the Centre of the Earth. New York: Scribner Armstrong And Co., 1874. First American edition. Octavo (7 x 4.75 inches; 178 x 120 mm). viii, 384 pages. Complete with 52 wood-engraved plates after Édouard Riou and included in the pagination. Publisher's red cloth pictorially stamped in black and gilt, rebacked to style. Some light shelfwear and corners slightly bumped. A very good copy.

Although it was first published in French in 1864, this first English edition of one of Jules Verne's most beloved works did not appear until 1872; despite its imprint date, this first American edition was actually published the following year, in November 1873. This is a handsome copy complete with the evocative woodcut illustrations after drawings by Édouard Riou. Myers 35. Taves & Michaluk V002.
