Octavo. 352 pages; map tipped to rear endpaper. [and:] The Return of the King. London: George Allen & Unwin, 1955. First edition, variant three with signature mark '4' present on page forty-nine and lines 'sagging' in the middle, originally designated as first state by Hammond/Anderson, later corrected by Wayne Hammond [The Tolkien Collector, Issue 11], Octavo. 416 pages, map attached to rear endpaper. Publisher's uniform red cloth, spines lettered and stamped in gilt; top edges stained red. In original dust jackets, Return of the King in second state with reviewer blurbs for the first two titles on the rear flap. Bindings rubbed with some occasional edgewear. Rear endpapers of Fellowship worn with some soiling. Dust jacket spine panels all faintly toned; edges worn with short creased tears; soiled. Jackets for Fellowship and Return quite worn and chipped with tape residue. Good, all things considered. Hammond and Anderson A5.a. i,ii,iii.
