    H. G. Wells. The Invisible Man. A Grotesque Romance. London: C. Arthur Pearson Limited, 1897. First edition, association copy, inscribed by the author to his friend, author William Pett Ridge, on the half-title: "W. Pett Ridge / from H. G. Wells." Octavo (7.25 x 4.75 inches; 184 x 120 mm.). viii, [246], [2, ads] pages (note: page 1 misnumbered "2"). Publisher's red cloth, front board decoratively stamped in black, front board and spine lettered in gilt. Spine toned and soiled; spine and corners edgeworn, binding rubbed and thumbsoiled; hinges repaired; endleaves toned; text toned at edges. Recipient's bookplate on first blank. Binding skewed. A very good copy with a nice association. Housed in quarter red morocco clamshell case. In 1924, novelist Edwin Pugh recalled his time with Wells and Ridge: "I see him most clearly, as he was in those days, through a blue haze of tobacco smoke. We used sometimes to travel together from Waterloo to Worcester Park on our way to spend a Saturday afternoon and evening with H. G. Wells." Hammond B4. From the James C. Seacrest Collection.
