    H. G. Wells. The Invisible Man. A Grotesque Romance. London: C. Arthur Pearson Limited, 1897. First edition, association copy, inscribed by the author to his friend, author William Pett Ridge, on the half-title: "W. Pett Ridge / from H. G. Wells." Octavo (7.25 x 4.75 inches; 184 x 120 mm.). viii, [246], [2, ads] pages (note: page 1 misnumbered "2"). A very good copy with a nice association. Housed in quarter red morocco clamshell case. In 1924, novelist Edwin Pugh recalled his time with Wells and Ridge: "I see him most clearly, as he was in those days, through a blue haze of tobacco smoke. We used sometimes to travel together from Waterloo to Worcester Park on our way to spend a Saturday afternoon and evening with H. G. Wells." Hammond B4. From the James C. Seacrest Collection.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
