    H. G. Wells. The Invisible Man. A Grotesque Romance. London: C. Arthur Pearson, 1897. English writer, Maurice Baring's copy with bookplate and owner signature. Autograph note signed by Wells, affixed to front endpaper. "6 March 30 / Dear Maurice / Yes, you ought send the / document back. I'm so sorry you can't / come. Yours, / H. G. / The letter from the Ch--- of the / A. S hasn't been sent one. / Id [sic] like to see / it." First edition. Octavo. viii, 245, [1, printer's imprint], [2, advertisements]. First page numbered with 2 figure as called for in Wells. Publisher's red cloth, decoratively stamped in black and lettered in gilt. Cloth dulled at backstrip and top edge with light wear to spine ends, spine slightly cocked, corners gently bumped. Front hinge cracked, front endpaper detached but present. A just good copy from the library of a fellow English man of letters. Currey, 419. Hammond B4. Wells 11. From the Larry McMurtry Collection of H. G. Wells, with McMurtry's bookplate.
