Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper to Sherry Gottlieb, owner of the legendary science fiction bookstore, A Change of Hobbit: "For Sherry / April 24, 1976 / Keep on trucking- / Frank Herbert". Octavo. xxvi, 412, [1, about the author], [1, blank] pages. Publisher's light blue cloth, spine lettered in white; in original dust jacket. Cloth a bit toned at edges, with minor rubbing to spine, and some minor occasional soiling to boards. Jacket spine a bit sunned (as usual for this title), jacket a bit toned, some rubbing and mild occasional thumbsoiling; a small neat rectangular ink mark on spine. Still, a fine copy of a book normally seen in inferior condition, with a rare association presentation by Herbert. The first novel in the Dune series. Winner of the 1965 Nebula and 1966 Hugo awards for best novel. Anatomy of Wonder (2004) II-524; Pringle, Science Fiction: The 100 Best Books 48; Survey of Science Fiction Literature II, pp. 647-58.

    A Change of Hobbit was the oldest and largest science fiction and fantasy bookshop in the world in the 1970's and 1980's. Located in Los Angeles, it quickly became a leading light for science fiction and fantasy collectors, as well as a meeting place for science fiction luminaries of the time, including Ray Bradbury, Harlan Ellison, Forrest J. Ackerman, Larry Niven, David Gerrold, and many more.
