    Description

Edgar Rice Burroughs. The Moon Maid. Chicago: A. C. McClurg & Co., 1926. First edition. Presentation copy, inscribed by Burroughs to his son, Hulbert, on the front free endpaper, with an excellent drawing of Hulbert in golf pants and cleats standing on the Earth, striking the Moon with a golf club, sending it to hit the tee on Mars (where the flag is planted), "To / Hulbert Burroughs / future world's / champ; former / international / Polo Prospect / From / His fond and Foolish / Father / (alias Edgar Rice Burroughs) / Los Angeles / April 22 1926." Octavo. [viii], 412 pages. With frontispiece by J. Allen St. John. Publisher's blue cloth, front board and spine lettered in black; original illustrated dust jacket. Spine sunned and mildly creased, some edgewear to spine and corners of boards. Endleaves a bit toned. The "l" of "Polo" in the inscription is a bit scuffed. Mild soiling to edge of text-block. Jacket has some professional repairs and restoration; a bit of general rubbing, thumbsoiling. Still, a near fine copy with a superb association. Zeuschner, p. 204-205.
From the Albert E. Willis Collection of Edgar Rice Burroughs.
