Octavo. 318, [2, publisher's advertisement, blank] pages. Illustrated with black and white frontispiece by Studley O. Burroughs, the author's nephew. Publisher's blue cloth, boards and spine stamped in red; original dust jacket illustrated by Studley O. Burroughs. Minor edgewear, head and foot of spine pushed, 43 mm crease to the upper board, affecting the end of the title, with corresponding repaired tear to the front pastedown. Cream endpapers; light offsetting, small penciled bookseller notations to pastedowns. Internally clean and tight, all edges trimmed; text block toned to margins and edges, a few pages lightly creased. Dust jacket with $2.00 price listed to the spine; minor edgewear. Near fine book with near fine dust jacket.

    A gorgeous copy of this title, the first hardcover to be published by Burroughs' own publishing company and affectionately inscribed to his second son, Hulbert. Part of the Tarzan legacy, one of the best-known literary characters the world over and whose adventures are still adapted to film, television, comics, and radio to this day.
