Edgar Rice Burroughs. Tarzan and "The Foreign Legion." Tarzana: Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., [1947]. First edition. Presentation copy, inscribed by Burroughs, "To / Rob Thompson / with all good wishes / Edgar Rice Burroughs / Tarzana / 14 July 1947." Octavo. 314, [2, blank] pages. With frontispiece and four illustrations throughout by John Coleman Burroughs. Publisher's blue pebbled cloth, front board and spine stamped in red; original illustrated dust jacket. Spine skewed; backstrip a bit toned; light edgewear to extremities. Jacket spine and panels toned; some rubbing, occasional chipping to edges. Very good. The last published Tarzan novel in Burroughs' lifetime. Inscribed copies are rare, with only this copy and one other appearing at auction in the last thirty years. Zeuschner, p. 347. The recipient is most likely the co-writer of the daily Tarzan comic strip, and the writer of at least one Tarzan radio adventure series (Tarzan and the Diamond of Asher).
