    Edgar Rice Burroughs. Tanar of Pellucidar. New York: Metropolitan Books, [1930]. First edition of the third Pellucidar title. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author to his son, Hulbert, over two weeks before the publication date: "I'm struck with awe / your loving Paw, / O. B. [Old Burroughs] / To Hulbert Burroughs / Tarzana / May 12 1930." With an original drawing by Burroughs depicting a man with sixteen-inch calves striking O. B. (calf size undetermined) with the "Philosopher Stone" as he enters "The Jungle of Ignorance." Octavo. 312 pages. Frontispiece with illustration by Paul F. Berdanier. Publisher's blue cloth, front board and spine lettered in black, in original dust jacket. Spine leaning gently; backstrip faintly dulled; extremities rubbed with a touch of wear at spine ends. Small splash to fore-edge of text block. Dust jacket spine panel lightly dulled; four soft vertical creases (one to spine and rear panels and both flaps); occasional light edgewear; faint foxing to rear panel. A near fine copy with a sentimental inscription and an excellent original drawing.
