Edgar Rice Burroughs. A Fighting Man of Mars. New York: Metropolitan Books, [1931]. First edition of the seventh book of the Mars series. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author to his son Hulbert: "To / Hulbert / with love / Papa / (O. M. B. [Old Man Burroughs]) / Tarzana / California." Octavo. 319, [1, blank] pages. Frontispiece by Hugh Hutton. Publisher's red clot, spine and front board lettered in green; top edge stained green; in possibly supplied dust jacket. Spine extremities very slightly bumped. Tiny abrasion at lower edge of rear pastedown and corresponding adhesion at lower edge of rear free endpaper; slightly over-opened between pages 146 and 147. Dust jacket disproportionately worn compared to book, potentially hinting it is supplied. Edges and folds worn; some cosmetic scratches; top edge creased and darkened; spine panel faded slightly; old tape repairs to chips and short tears on both recto and verso, causing affected white lettering to appear pink; small area of surface loss at top edge of front panel where a three-quarter-inch tear was repaired. A beautiful, near fine copy in a presentable, about very good, jacket. Bleiler, Science-Fiction: The Early Years, 310; Bleiler, The Checklist of Science-Fiction and Supernatural Fiction (1978), p. 35; Heins FMM-1; Reginald 02281; Zeuschner (1996) 146; Zeuschner (2016), p. 90.

    More Information:

"In the Foreword to A FIGHTING MAN OF MARS, there is mention of Jason Gridley's work at Tarzana in establishing radio communication with Pellucidar, which eventually led to contact with Mars. This was one of Burroughs' favorite devices, to create connecting links between one of his series and another" (Heins, page 125).

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
