Brick-red cloth spine and front board lettered and stamped in black. 336, [337-340: index] pages. Covers faintly dust soiled at extremities, top edge slightly foxed. Near fine.

    The novel is set on the eve of World War I and tells the story of three American male explorers who encounter an all-female society; it was not published separately, in book form, until 1979.

    Charlotte Perkins Gilman (1860-1935), was a novelist, poet, socialist, and noted feminist theorist; her work 'Herland,' was "a masterpiece of feminist Utopian fiction, which celebrates the strength and vigor of a community of women without men..."
