One of Ray Bradbury's Earliest Science Fiction Efforts, a Self-Published Magazine He Edited at Eighteen, With Two Issues Signed by Him and with Robert A. Heinlein's Only Fanzine Appearance

[Ray Bradbury and Forest Ackerman, editors and contributors]. Futuria Fantasia. [Los Angeles: Science Circle], 1939-1940. The complete run of all four issues, each a first edition in original staple-bound wrappers. Volume 1, no. 1 inscribed by Bradbury on the front cover: "Jan. 2,/1971/For Bob! This first issue of "Futuria Fantasia"/with the good wishes of Ray Bradbury". Volume 1, no. 2 signed by Bradbury and dated "1979" on the front cover. Four quarto volumes. Some rubbing, soiling, wear, creasing, front cover of the Winter 1940 issue detached and chipped, yet present. Overall, a very good collection of these rare and fragile items.

    More Information:

When Bradbury was eighteen, he and Forrest J. Ackerman started this magazine (after their first effort, Imagination! magazine ended) and printed roughly 100 copies of each issue, which sold for ten cents each. Hannes Bok provided most of the artwork, and contributors included Bradbury and Ackerman, Damon Knight, Henry Kutter, and Bruce Yerke. Bradbury and Ackerman used their own names as well as pseudonyms, and Robert A. Heinlein used the pseudonym Lyle Monroe (his story, Heil!, is in the fourth issue, being his only fanzine appearance).
