An Interesting Fold-Out Display of Human Anatomy

Yaggy's Anatomical Study; Presenting the Skeleton, Muscles, Arteries, Veins and Nerves, also Four Life Size Manikins of the Body, the Head, the Eye and the Ear, the Whole Constructed under the Supervision of Dr. Henry M. Lyman, Dr. Christian Fenger, Dr. W. F. Smith. Chicago: Western Publishing House, 1886.

Large folio. [2] pages. With nine large full-color diagrams depicting the human anatomy on coated, cloth-backed paper, with the last being mounted to the rear cover, with many fold-out flaps depicting the construction of the eye, the ear, and the head. On the front cover is mounted a three-panel fold out diagram of the human torso, also on coated, cloth-backed paper, with many flaps on the central panel depicting the construction of the internal organs.

Large wallet-fold binding of full blue cloth, stamped in gilt, with metal clasps designed to be configured in various ways to display the large plates. The whole is housed in a very large brown cloth pouch with a fold-over cover secured with metal locking clasps. Some rubbing and dampstaining to outside of binding, the plates are still quite clean and fresh. Pouch has some wear. Still, this is a near fine and unusual item, of special interest to the anatomical collector, the color-printing collector and the collector of the strange. As a side note, Yaggy seems to be the man who patented the folding wallet display binding.
