Marci-Michaelis Bousquet & Sociorum, 1740. Third Latin edition. Quarto. [4], xxxii, 363, [1, errata] pages. Title printed in red and black with engraved vignette. Twelve folding engraved plates inserted throughout. Lacking the engraved portrait, but with the half-title. Contemporary full brown calf, spine elaborately tooled in gilt in compartments, six raised bands, orange gilt morocco lettering label, marbled pastedowns. Binding worn, headcap chipped, text foxed and dampstained (dampstains more prevalent in the final portion of text), a few plates dampstained. With the ownership signature of Swedish scientist Frederick Rudberg (1800-1839) with his signature (dated 1819), and another, unidentified, signature from 1836. A good copy. "The classical formulation and first full presentation of Newton's corpuscular or emission theory of light" (Becker).
