    First Edition. Twelvemo. a8, e4, i8, o4, A8, B4, C8, D4, E8, F4, G8, H4, I8, K4, L8, M4, N8, O4, P8, Q4. [22], 187, [5] pages. Engraved extra-title, engraved arms (Claude Le Peletier), twenty-five full-page engravings, head- and tail-pieces. Modern mottled sheep backed marbled board, gilt rules on spine, title on label, edges speckled red, marbled endpapers, minor dampstains, light foxing, else very good copy. From the Krown & Spellman Collection.

    Bullet (1639-1716) French architect and engineer, and favorite student of Francois Blondel. In 1685 he became a member of the Academie Royale d'Architecture and was appointed royal architect. "Shortly before 1675 he was commissioned to design a new map of Paris and for this purpose he constructed a new instrument which he called "pantometre." Although it has some resemblance to Scheiner's instrument, it was much bigger and could be used more widely." [Weil Cat 29:20.] He was also the author of the popular encyclopedic work Architecture Partique which went through many editions. [See Millard, French Boooks,#45.]
