Fourth edition, the first published as a single volume. Quarto (9 x 6.75 inches; 228 x 178 mm.). [2], iv, [2], 112, 111-417, 416-472, 465-496, [16] pages. Seven inserted copperplate engravings, two of which are folding; in-text engravings, musical notation, initials, head- and tail-pieces. Contemporary speckled calf; gilt fillet decoration; spine decorated in gilt with five raised bands; red morocco spine label lettered and ruled in gilt. All edges trimmed and sprinkled red. Joints split to expose bands, but still sound; general shelf wear and bumping; loss to top spine end; scratches and abrasions with some loss to surface of calf; most of fillet decoration lost. Hinges starting to crack; front free endpaper detached. Normal age yellowing to interior of text block; scattered tiny spots of foxing. Faint tidemark at lower corner of some leaves. Some plates trimmed close. First folding plate wrinkled at edge of one panel with tear extending to middle of plate. A very good text somewhat worn binding. With armorial bookplate of F. G.
