Book club edition. Signed by Sagan and Lomberg on title-page. Octavo (9.1875 x 6 inches; 233 x 152 mm.). 432 pages. One-quarter bound in black cloth with black paper-covered boards; spine stamped in gilt; all edges trimmed. With original dust jacket featuring illustration by Lomberg; rear panel with portrait of Sagan; flaps white printed in black. Regular shelf wear to binding; corners bumped; slight fading to head and foot of backstrip. Edge wear, scuffing, and toning to dust jacket; soft crease running vertical length of front flap. Verso of dust jacket yellowed, particularly at edges, with some faint offsetting from black paper. Occasional marginal thumbsoiling scattered throughout text block. Very good.

    [Together with:] Jim Hart [and Michael Goldenberg], screenwriters. Contact. By Carl Sagan. Los Angeles: Lynda Obst Productions, 1993. First draft. Signed by Sagan and Lomberg. Loose sheets, printed on rectos only (11 x 8.5 inches; 279 x 215 mm.). [2], 1-39, [1], 40-125, [1] leaves. Inserted color "frontispiece" by Lomberg and one leaf of six full-color photograph reproductions of a variety of areas in space. Housed in white three-ring binder with postcard-sized reproduction of the novel's cover art and a handwritten label tucked under front plastic; protective sheet from Lynda Obst Productions with a note from her assistant clipped to the top inserted at front. Binder scuffed and soiled, with all metal components rusting; some offsetting of unrelated text onto outer and inner side of front cover. Cover sheet toned, rust stained, somewhat edge-worn; scattered rust staining at inner margin throughout. Fair.

Loose materials in sheet protectors (11 x 9 inches; 280 x 229 mm.). 14 sheet protectors with various notes, packets, memos and letters. Some illustrative and photographic content, all color. Housed in white three-ring binder with postcard-sized reproduction of the novel's cover art and a handwritten label tucked under front plastic. Binder somewhat scuffed, soiled; rust starting at rings; some edge wear to documents that protrude beyond sheet protectors, binder edges. Some documents lightly foxed, rust stained, softly rumpled or creased. Good. Includes a variety of letters regarding Lomberg's involvement in the production of Contact in its novel and film forms, one written and signed by Sagan.

Most material illustrative, including storyboards, prints, sketches, studies and reference images, most full color and signed by Lomberg. Textured, flexible black plastic wrappers, front stamped in white with postcard-sized reproduction of the novel's cover art pasted to lower corner. Some edge wear, mild dust soiling to wrappers; some soft creases, dimples, rumpling to album pages, art pristine. Very good.

    [And:] Jon Lomberg. Framed print of cover art for Contact. [Location not identified]: dated 1989. Signed by Lomberg. Single framed, matted and backed print (28.5 x 23.5 inches; 725 x 600 mm.). Brown and cream paperboard mats with gold-colored metal frame. With wire for wall mounting. Some dust soiling and smudging to glass; spotting to frame where plating has been eaten through. Print very good, in good housing.

    [And:] Jon Lomberg. Contact Opening Flightplan. [Location not identified: undated.] Signed. Single matted and backed print (21.75 x 27.5 inches; 552 x 698 mm.). Black and white paperboard mats. With taped-on note to Sagan from Lomberg on Planetary Society stationery. Some edge wear, dust and thumbsoiling to mat and backing. Very good in good housing.

    [And:] Blue and white baseball cap. With silver, white and blue logo featuring a Vitruvian man with three orbitals. [No manufacture information.] Signed by Lomberg. Slightly soiled with staining to interior. Good.

    [And:] Stereoscope with slides that appear to be based on Lomberg illustration. [No manufacture information.] Black plastic with white plastic slides featuring a three-dimensional space view. Near fine.
